Jan van der Ploeg: 'A Collection. Black and White Landscape' at GKG Bonn (2018)
In 2018, Dutch artist Jan van der Ploeg presented the exhibition A Collection. Black and White Landscape at the Gesellschaft für Kunst und Gestaltung (GKG) in Bonn. This exhibition showcased a selection of black-and-white works from Van der Ploeg’s personal collection, alongside his own installation A Wall Painting Installation. The works in the collection highlighted themes of abstraction, geometry, and the contrasts between black and white, and reflected the artist’s interest in the interplay of form and space.
The exhibition featured works by various international artists, including names like Jan Maarten Voskuil, Jasper van der Graaf, Nicolas Chardon, Riëtte Wanders, Daniel Göttin, Richard van der Aa, and Geeske Bijker, among others. These artists, known for their exploration of minimalism and geometric abstraction, contributed to a cohesive thematic presentation, bridging Van der Ploeg's artistic practice with their own.
A Collection. Black and White Landscape offered visitors a glimpse into the artist’s influences and the dialogue between his own work and that of other contemporary artists working in similar abstract and monochromatic traditions.
The exhibition opened on January 28, 2018, and ran until March 30, 2018, with an opening speech by Prof. Andreas Denk, chairman of the GKG, and curator Beate Eckstein M.A.
